Vin
Gris
Dry Creek Valley, Certified Organic
2007, Sold Out
The Wine
"Vin Gris" is our Rhône-style rosé made form fully ripened
Cinsault and Mourvèdre. It takes its inspiration from the refreshing
salmon-colored wines of France's Bandol region, and is produced by the
traditional bleeding off of juice from red fermenters, followed by barrel
fermentation. The wine has exotic orange-cream, peach and watermelon flavors
and is completely dry.
The Vines
Our Mourvèdre and Cinsault vineyards are sited side-by-side on a clay
bench overlooking Peña Creek. The soils are shallow and stress-inducing,
ensuring advanced ripeness and flavor maturity. Both varietals possess low to
moderate tannins which serves the rosé well. In addition, Cinsault has
a natural pink-mauve skin color which gives the wine its brilliant hue.
Thought for Food
Rhône-style rosés fill a gustatory niche quite different from that of
a blushing aperitif. Spicy foods served in a warm climate call for chillable
wine with more flavor than a white, yet with lighter finish than most reds.
Envision it with bouillbaisse at a quay-side bistro in Marsaille's summer heat.
Or an appetizer of garlic-laced hummus on flatbread wedded in a blindingly
white-washed Marakesh cafe.
