Carignane
Dry Creek Valley, Certified Organic
2006, Wine Club Only

One of our “old-timer” grapes. We draw Carignane grapes from both a 90 year-old vineyard and one we planted in the early 1980s. The resultant wine gives us dense blueberry/blackberry fruit, generous acidity, robust tannins, and a smoky, spicy finish. Sometimes the nose is teased with a bit of mineral, sometimes a barky sensation. Like our forebearers, we blend extensively with Carignane, but enjoy its rough and tumble individuality as well.

The intense flavors and high acidity of Carignane complement and refresh in
partnership with the fattier organ meats like liver or sweetbreads. Quick-fry thin slices of duck liver in a hot skillet, serve with oven roasted herbed vegetables. Enjoy the Carignane
from a tumbler. Your mother told you to “eat your liver”; your grandfather would have said, “drink your Carignane”.
